Dated 1885-1887, green lozenge kiln mark for 85, iron-red FR doré mark for 87, underglazed blue W, incised JB 85 8 PN and BB 85 9 PN, and PN to the cover, signed Sieffert
In the Renaissance style, the baluster vase surmounted by a triple-loop handle, finely enameled front and back with putti at leisure either flying a kite or climbing on a tree branch, the top and foot enriched with florets, 'jeweled' bands and egg-and-dart pattern

Eugène-Louis Sieffert is recorded as a painter at Sèvres 1881-1887; 1894-1898.

The form of the present lot is based on a Renaissance rock-crystal vase made in Milan and now in the Galerie d'Apollon in the Louvre.
