專家說明
The drawer construction of the present table shows similarities with that of a bureau-cabinet sold by Sir Thomas Beevor, Bt, Christie's London, 14 June 2001, lot 150. In both cases the drawer bottom is held in place by a four-sided rebate, as opposed to the more usual English form of three-sided rebate. That bureau-cabinet, in turn, relates to another made by the Strand cabinet-maker Peter Miller in 1724.
A closely related table - undoubtedly by the same hand and with this almost Chinese-inspired crispness of carving to the scallop-shell - was sold at by the Exexutors of the late Viscount Camrose, Hackwood Park, Basingstoke, Hampshire, Christie's house sale, 20 - 22 April 1998, lot 47.
