專家說明

A paint analysis has been undertaken on this chest; it revealed that 'The original background of the raised decoration was black and red and was probably 'tortoiseshell', but this has been covered over with the present 20th Century restoration. A lot of the gilding on the flat background seems to be from the later restoration, though the gilding on the raised decoration is largely original. The pigments used for the original decoration were carbon black and vermilion. Lead white and iron oxides were mixed to create the putty for the raised decoration. Gold was used, but less extensively than now. These materials could be either 18th-Century or 19th'.
