The present watch is a typical example of a 19th century copy of an enamelled watch made by the founders of Patek Philippe, Antoine Patek and François Czapek, who signed their watches "Patek, Czapek & Co.".

Some elements of this watch, most notably the number and the enamel scene to the back, correspond to a certain extend to the original watch no. 677 made by Patek, Czapek & Co. in 1842 and exemplify the creativity of watch copiers even at such an early date.

The enamel miniature on the present watch is after Raphael's "“Madonna della Sedia" (1514, oil on panel, Galleria Palatina, Palazzo Pitti, Florence), a popular subject for the decoration of pocket watches.
