Giacomo Guardi (Venice 1764-1825)

San Giorgio in Alga is an island between the Giudecca and Fusina. A Benedictine monastery was founded there in 1000 AD but was destroyed by fire in the eighteenth century. At the end of the eighteenth century it became the location for a prison.
