專家說明
William Legge, 2nd Earl of Dartmouth (1731-1801), succeeded his grandfather, the 1st Earl, in 1750. He went on the Grand Tour with his stepbrother, Frederick, Lord North, subsequently Prime Minister, in 1752-3. Both were painted in Rome by Batoni, and Dartmouth acquired a number of pictures by other Italian painters, including eight by van Lint's contemporary, Giovanni Battista Busiri. He was the major patron of Richard Wilson's Roman years, acquiring two significant canvases as well as no fewer than 68 drawings, including a dozen highly finished views of Rome.
