專家說明

Trained by his father, David Vinckboons was also strongly influenced by the painter Gillis van Coninxloo III (1544-1607), who lived in Amsterdam from 1595 and who was probably the master of Esaias van de Velde and Hercules Seghers. His peasant scenes benefit from the example of Pieter Bruegel, and also bear strong links to the work of Adriaen and Isaack van Ostade.

Pictures in the kermesse tradition, depicting peasant feasts and dances, were a popular subject, with successful compositions generating much demand. This picture is a fine studio variant of the original in the Gemäldegalerie, Dresden, with some of the figures likely to be from Vinckboons's own hand.
