Contemporary calf (some repairs to spine, rubbed). Provenance: Union Library (19th century inscription on flyleaf).
Fourth edition of Gass's journal, the first to include a map. This fourth edition has the same plates as the 1810 second edition, which was the first published account of the expedition to have illustrations. The artist is unknown but obviously was unprofessional and unfamiliar with most aspects of the expedition. Howes G-77; Streeter sale V:3123n; Wagner-Camp-Becker 6:4.
