Lord Craven paid 10 pounds 10 shillings for a 'Portrait of a Bay Horse' recorded in 1832 in Ferneley's account book. The Craven family were significant patrons of Ferneley's and commissioned several works. William Craven, 7th Baron and 1st Earl of Craven, was born on 1 Septebmer 1770. He was created 1st Earl of Craven in 1801 and also Viscount Uffington. He was Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire and married Louisa Brunton, a celebrated actress. He was the son of William Craven, 6th Baron Craven (1738-1791) and Lady Elizabeth Berkeley, daughter of 4th Earl of Berkeley. His younger brother was called Henry Augustus Berkeley Craven (1776-1836) and is also referred to in Ferneley's account book.
