SIR ERNEST HENRY SHACKLETON (1874-1922) Autograph letter signed to 'My dear Sir Arthur', 9 Regent St, London, 22 September, 3 pages, 8vo, on paper headed 'Darleith, Cardross, Dumbartonshire', address crossed through (edges browned from mounting, minor marginal tear at fold). 'I did not smoke Ashley Dickeon's pipe near the Pole, but did at winter quarters'. Shackleton has been 'on the rush lecturing', but is 'glad you have not forgotten me', and is only now able to reply to his friend's 'kind letter', having had 'to leave Braham Castle early the next morning'.
