The Japanese Aesthetic

The Japanese Aesthetic

拍賣簡介

The Japanese Aesthetic encapsulates the extraordinarily powerful designs of Japanese domestic and export works of art ranging from 13th century swords to fine metalwork produced during the late 19th century for export. Leading the sale are a rare pair of Kakiemon models of karashishi. The arts of the Samurai are represented by swords from a renowned sword collector and a fine group of armour befitting the daimyo of Edo Period Japan. Other areas include ukiyo-e prints including the iconic Shower Below the Summit from the series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai, and a private American collection of lacquer. Marking Bernard Leach’s 125th anniversary there is a collection of ceramics, drawings and etchings by Leach and his circle.
