Maximillian Büsser, the mastermind behind the contemporary brand MB&F, famous for their extraordinary and other-worldly haute horology masterpieces since 2007 has quickly climbed the ladder in the past few years as a top independent watchmaker and collector-favored brand. The Legacy Machine, a cornerstone model of the manufacturer is one of the most important and desirable models as it melds traditional watchmaking with contemporary technology and innovation. Inspired by the works from the godfathers of mechanical watchmaking: Abraham-Louise Breguet, Ferdinand Berthoud, and Antide Janvier, these inventive geniuses were united by their strive for experimentation with dual regulators, and MB&F’s Legacy Machine continues their works two and a half centuries later.
Released in 2013, the Legacy Machine No’ 2 features two independent “flying” balances which utilize a planetary differential system to regulate each escapement beating at its own rate. The bespoke 11mm three-dimensional “flying” balances are suspended above the dial, each supported by incredible double-arc mirror-polished bridges. To accommodate and emphasize this main feature and design, an oversized bubble sapphire crystal is fitted to the timepiece, allowing for a fuller view and appreciation of this wonderful achievement. The one-of-a-kind movement powering the Legacy Machine No’ 2 is none other than the masterworks from legendary watchmakers Jean-François Mojon at Chronode and Kari Voutilainen. Its rear is just as beautiful as the front featuring 19th century style hand-finishing decoration including Côtes de Genève, anglage, and black-mirror polishing.
Furthermore, the present Legacy Machine No’ 2 reference 02.RL.B is a highly important and rare example as it was only one of twelve examples ever created. It differentiates itself with a lovely 18k red gold case contrasted by a silvered blue dial which also happens to be the baseplate for the movement. Additionally, the watch has an elevated time-reading dial that is traditional in construction and made from porcelain with painted roman numerals. In all, the present lot is an incredibly rare opportunity to own a highly complicated and important masterpiece from MB&F that is certain to elevate any watch collection.
