The ability to discuss time as well as its very perception depend on the realisation that something has changed. One should realise that something existed prior to the change; something that is within the change itself and may even have caused it. The perception of time is an inexplicable fusion of change and immutability within consciousness. In the lives of people as we experience them, there are periods of time with no beginning and no end. Circumstances and periods which can occur without warning and which never reoccur once they are finished. Yet there are also repetitions, cycles; good and bad times, hope and despair, love and hate. They accumulate, die and return. There are also blackouts: the temporary disappearance of time. And there also periods when time speeds up and when it is distorted.
