CIRCLE OF PIETER CLAESZ. (BERCHEM C. 1597-1660 HAARLEM)

This painting is a partial or reduced period copy after a painting now believed to be by Pieter Claesz. That painting, last recorded with Kunsthandel P. de Boer in Amsterdam in 1968, was attributed to Rembrandt when it was sold from the Ströfer collection (Böhler, Munich, 28 October 1937, lot 86). The attribution of the painting to Rembrandt was equally endorsed by Ingvar Bergström.

We are greatful to Dr. Fred G. Meijer for his assitance cataloguing this lot.
