A CHIPPENDALE CARVED WALNUT SIDE CHAIR

Retaining its original leather-upholstered slip-seat, this side chair is a rare survival of mid-eighteenth century Philadelphia seating furniture. The splat design, with looped scrolls and an inverted-heart void, is also seen on contemporaneous chairs from New England and New York.
