"Kusama's early experiments in watercolour were extensive, ambitious and highly original. She evolved an intensely coloured and animated manner, with spontaneous lyrical gestures and distinctive types of patterning - and developed a vocabulary of biomorphic and microscopic organic forms, essentially abstract but evocative of stellar, aquatic or subterranean world" (F. Morris, Yayoi Kusama, London, 2012, p. 11).
