William Thomas Townend Hall (1846-1883), Syndale House, Faversham; (†) Christie's, London, 23 July 1887, lot 161, as 'Claude. A Seaport, with shipping and figures', sold for 6 gns. to,
Charles Wheler (d. 1899), Faversham, Kent, and by descent to the present owner.

专家说明

The present painting is a version of Claude's Seaport with the Campidoglio of 1636 in the Louvre, Paris (inv. no. 4712). This and its pendant, the View of the Campo Vaccino, were confiscated from the collection of the duc de Brissac during the revolution.
