DOMENICO PIOLA (GENOA 1627-1703)

This sheet was previously given to the Genoese artist Domenico Parodi. Recently, however, Mary Newcome Schleier, to whom we are grateful for her assistance in cataloguing this drawing, gave this sheet to Piola, suggesting it should be dated to the 1690s. She furthermore notes that the dog spectator is a typical feature of the artist's late compositions.
