CLAES OLDENBURG (B. 1929)

"My interest in making a very small, intimate monument for London led me to imagine a monument inside a taxi cab, where you spend much of your time in London. There is an oval light to your left above the door and that would seem to be a good spot for the substitution of a plastic ear, reddish, which could be rubbed from time to time and which would light up." C. Oldenberg, Proposals for Monuments and Buildings 1965-69, p. 159.
