New York, Leo Castelli Gallery, Benefit Exhibition for the Foundation for Contemporary Performance Arts, November-December 1980.
In 1980, while attending a party at the home of Camilla and Earl McGrath, Jasper Johns asked Richard Diebenkorn to donate a work to the upcoming Foundation of Contemporary Performance Arts benefit exhibition. In response, Diebenkorn drew the present lot, two sketches of Johns himself, which were subsequently sold jointly at Leo Castelli Gallery later that year.
