RYAN SULLIVAN (B. 1983)

Sullivan appropriately names his paintings with the start and end dates of his respective works. He fills the canvasses with immense amounts of materials such as oil, enamel and latex and many times, waits months for them to dry. The American artist states, “There’s something closely linked between the image that you see, the process of making it and the material. There’s nothing else." In this work, it is clear Sullivan enjoys how the materials form and crack and bubble on their own. He is not interested in manipulating, only in creating.
