CIRCA 1760
Each painted in blue with a biblical scene, the first with Jesus, Peter and Andrew, inscribed Math 4 v 18, the other with Jesus healing a blind man before buildings, inscribed Joannis 9 v I, within orange borders reserved with flowers, foliage, putti and panels with gardens (minor chipping and flaking to rims)
13 ½ in. (34.3 cm.) diam.

专家说明

The border design on these dishes includes quatrefoil cartouches enclosing buildings in formal gardens which may have been inspired by Daniel Stoopendaal's publication of 1719, De Zegepraalende Vecht (the Triumphant Vecht River). The 1699 publication Den Nederlandsten Hovenier (the Dutch Gardner) by Johannes van der Groen which illustrated 200 garden designs also featured two plates illustrating pleasure pavilions and these may also have provided artistic inspiration for the simplified cartouches on the present dishes.
