In a review of the 1951 William Zorach one-man show at The Downtown Gallery, which featured a marble version of the present sculpture, New York Times critic William Devree praised, "there is something of the sinuous appeal of traditional Hindu figures in the lovely marble 'Kneeling Figure.'
