Li Keran considered his eight month travels in 1956 to be one of the most arduous yet most fulfilling in contrast to other times. It resulted in the most number of works created despite the difficult conditions and he created over two hundreds sketches, discernably of a more sophisticated quality than his works in 1954; Liang Shaojun believed that Li's signature landscape pieces of a full landscape and dense brushwork really began to take form during this period.
Having created Bridge at Meishan and other works during this period, one notices the heavy use of colour contrast and layering effects in its creation - in this work, the denseness of the trees is not overbearing and instead creates pockets of light that is directed to the bridge and waterfall below, exuding a light and carefree atmosphere.
