Kändler, with Harlequin seated beside Columbine, Harlequin wearing a mask and holding a sausage in his left hand, Columbine playfully pushing him away and holding a slapstick in her right hand, on a mound base applied with a hound, flowers and foliage (Harlequin cracked and restored around waist, thighs and right wrist, replacement slapstick, blue bow to trousers, three flowers at base, further minor areas of restoration and chipping, minor wear to gilding)

Kändler refers to this model in his Taxa between 1740 and 1748, '1. dergl. (Groupgen) aus 2. Figuren bestehend, da ein Arlequin neben einem Frauenzimmer sizt, solche zu caressi, die ihn mit der Pritzsche schlägt' (1 group of 2 figures, in which a Harlequin sits near a woman so as to caress her, she hits him with a slapstick)1 and again in his worknotes for January 1743, 'Ein Groupgen aus 2 Figuren bestehend, da ein Arlequin neben einem Frauenzimmer sitzt, solche zu caressieren, die ihn mit der Pritsche schlägt' (A group of two figures, in which a harlequin seated beside a woman, intending to caress her, while she is hitting him with the slapstick).2
