FELIX VALLOTTON (1865-1925)

Aus dem Oeuvrekatalog ist zu entnehmen, dass Hortensia et Coquillage irrtümlicherweise von Jacques Rodrigues Henriques, Vallottons Stiefsohn, neben der Stempelsignatur auf (19)18 datiert worden ist. Dank Félix Vallottons geführten Livre de Raison geht hervor, dass das Gemälde - von Vallotton als '(nature morte.) Hortensia (Guernsey)' bezeichnet - während eines Aufenthalts auf der englischen Insel Guernsey entstanden ist, wo Vallotton 1907 einige Tage weilte.

In the Oeuvre Catalogue, Jacques Rodrigues Henriques, Vallotton's stepson, posthumously attributed an incorrect stamped signature - (19)18 - to this painting, Hortensia et Coquillage. Thanks to the livre de Raison in which Félix Vallotton kept record of his works, it is clear that this painting - referred to by Vallotton as '(nature morte.) Hortensia (Guernsey)' - was created during his short stay on the English island of Guernsey in 1907.
