Signed photostatic copy of the Declaration of the Three Powers regarding Iran. 2 pages, 4to, glossy reproductions, signed and inscribed in ink by Churchill on bottom of first page. A SOUVENIR COPY OF CHURCHILL'S, ROOSEVELT'S, AND STALIN'S PLEDGE TO AID IRAN, signed by Churchill and inscribed one-day before the atomic bombing of Japan: "My dear Blake, Please accept my warmest thanks, Aug. 5th 1945, Winston S. Churchill." The text of this declaration--originally issued at the close of the Teheran Conference--pledges the three great powers to maintain "the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran." Iran would briefly be a hot spot of early cold wear tension between Moscow, London and Washington. The Declaration's final words have an ironic ring in light of current-day tensions over Iran: the Allies "count upon the participation of Iran, together with all other peace-loving nations, in the establishment of international peace, security, and prosperity after the war, in accordance with the principles of the Atlantic Charter..."
