Alexander Gutke (b. 1971)

Working within conceptual and minimalist traditions, Alexander Gutke uses cameras – both film and slide projectors – to explore light and dark as well as narrative and visual illusion. 9 Ways To Say It’s Over comprises the credits from black and white films in nine different languages, celebrating, with subtle humour, the cinematic experience and its instantly recognisable markers of finality. As the artist has explained, 'the film arrives at its final narrative destination while the psychological room created between the viewer, the characters and the story continues to live a life of its own' (A.
