James Duffield Harding, O.W.S. (Deptford 1797-1863 Barnes)

The identification of the South Tyrol is traditional. Harding is known to have travelled to Italy in 1824 and again in 1831, 1834 and 1835. Celebrated not only for his success with watercolour, Harding provided the illustrations for numerous publications, including Views of the South of Germany, the Tyrol and Italy (1825), The Tourist in Italy (1831) and Finden’s Illustrations of the Life and Works of Lord Byron (1832).
