专家说明

The inscription on this portrait identifies the sitter as Maria Elisabeta Dulliker, née Balthasar. The Balthasars were prominent members of the Lucerne aristocracy, whose fortune had originated in the trade of textiles, and played a key role in the city's political life. The Dullikers came from Dälliken, in the Canton of Zurich, moving to Lucerne at the beginning of the sixteenth century. There they formed a close political alliance with the Pfyffer family, which granted them access to both the Great and the Small City Councils.
