"The vineyards of Cheval are an anomaly of Bordeaux: majority Cabernet Franc (60, with the balance almost exclusively Merlot. This is because the property is planted in the section of St.-Emilion located on gravel. Originally part of Figeac, the property was sold in the 1830s. Now it marks the border with Pomerol, neighboring La Conseillante and L'Evangile. The wines are structured and elegant, and much more classic in style than many producers in the Libournais, and the 96 is typical of this classical style, with a cassis nose and hints of violet on the nose and a silken elegance on the palate.
