拍品 2780 Conch pearls - in sunset pinks and golds - are the product of a unique pearl source, the Queen Conch, Strombus Gigas. The official symbol of the Bahama Islands and the Florida Keys, the Queen Conch is one of the largest living herbivorous gastropods. Conch pearls are non-nacreous but bear the silky porcellaneous lustre of the shell's interior and display a peculiar flamelike effect called 'chatoyancy'. Like conch shells, conch pearls span hues from white, yellow, and beige to lavender and the most-prevalent pinks, ranging from pastel to salmon to magenta. Conch pearls are still among the rarest of recognised gemstones. According to various sources, a conch pearl is found in only one of 10,000-15,000 conchs, and all are natural.
