TRUMAN HELPS GIVE AN ORPHANED CHILD A FATHER in this exceptional and rare autograph letter as President: "I am most happy to recommend Chief Hospital man Preston C. Taylor. He is a good citizen, a patriot and I am sure he would make a good father." This is most likely addressed to St. Ann's orphanage, then located on K Street in Washington, and currently located in Hyattsville, Maryland (Abraham Lincoln signed the Congressional Act incorporating St. Ann's Infant Asylum, as it was then called, in 1863). Taylor served in the Navy as a Chief Pharmacist's mate, and accompanied Truman on some of his vacation trips to Florida. TRUMAN AUTOGRAPH LETTERS AS PRESIDENT ARE RARE.
