This finely-inlaid commode en console is embellished with flowers and foliage arranged in different patterns, notably a basket of flowers to the shaped strechter joining the incurved legs. His refined style is clearly inspired by that of some of his fellow Parisian cabinet-makers of German and Flemish origin, such as Jean-François Oeben and Roger Vandercruse, known as Lacroix. One of his distinctive and most favoured marquetry motifs are his intricate borders, which appear around the drawer of the present console, but also a commode, sold Christie's, Paris, 4 May 2011, lot 425 and a secretaire, sold Christie's, London, 12 December 2002, lot 106.
