The artist's studio, second sale, Galerie Georges Petit, Paris, 11-13 December 1918, lot 331 (illustrated p. 188).
Acquired in the 1960s-1970s and thence by descent to the present owners.

This work is one of five recorded drawings which are related to the figure of the dancer at the centre left of the oil Répétition d'un ballet sur la scène, circa 1876 (Lemoisne no. 400, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; cf. Lemoisne no. 402 & Atelier 2.331 & 4.276a).
