LATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY
CASE: with pagoda on green paste-set domed top, blue enamel-backed ormolu lattice-work front panel and open lattice-work frets to sides, beaded and feathered mounts to all angles, on four splayed feet DIAL: paste-set bezel to white enamel 2½ in. diameter dial, gilt-brass moon main hands, blued steel centre seconds hand MOVEMENT: five baluster pillars, twin chain fusees, later anchor escapement, striking hours and quarters on a nest of seven bells
13½ (34.5 cm.) high; 5 5/8 in. (14.5 cm.) wide; 5 5/8 (14.5 cm.) deep

专家说明

Chinese clockmaking developed significantly at the end of the 18th Century, with many clocks emulating the English style. This example displays very similar features to those seen on clocks by John Mottram, including splayed feet and beaded and 'feathered' angle mounts. Similar details may be seen on a clock by Mottram sold by The Nezu Museum, Christie's Hong Kong, 27 May 2008, lot 1512. A further example, also by Mottram and also with these attributes, was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 12 December 2001, lot 76.
