AN EARLY VICTORIAN ROSEWOOD STOOL
BY MORISON, MID-19TH CENTURY
Recently upholstered in green buttoned leather on reeded tapering legs, stamped twice JAMES MORISON NO 28 ... STREET EDINBURGH
16 in. (40 cm.) high; 29 in. (71 cm.) wide; 19 in. (48 cm.) deep

专家说明

The stamp on this stool almost certainly pertains to the London-trained James Morison, who, in partnership with his father also named James, advertised his 'New Cabinet and Chair Manufactory' operating in both Edinburgh and the port of Ayr.Although working in Scotland, James boasted he maintained his London 'connections'. Morison followed the latest London cabinet-makers' guides and directories, such as George Smith's Collection of Designs for Household Furniture of 1808.
