Note:
In the present lot, Zhang Daqian emulated the style of Yuan master Zhao Mengfu (1254V1322). Like Zhao, Zhang first outlined his subject with light-coloured ink, and then filled in the parts with washes of colour. In using red and green tones to depict the trees, green and gold to portray the mountains, Zhang created a vibrant and captivating image reminiscent of the ancient masters. Zhang layered the middle grounds to broaden the sense of depth, and created a contemplative space to invite viewers own imagination.
