Eight-day movement wound and hour set through the base, four mother-of-pearl dials, luminous Roman numerals, luminous fancy hands, square silver case, screwed gold bezels, mounted on a bun-form lapis-lazuli base above a stepped hexagonal and gold foot, all surmounted by a hexagonal silver and white marbleized translucent lamp shade, base signed European Watch & Clock Co., Inc., no. 1673

The present timepiece is a superb example of Cartier's innovative and artistic spirit by creating not only outstanding jewellery and watches but also highly elegant yet practical items, reflecting the refined elegance of the early 20th century aristocratic living. Cartier has been instrumental in developing different vogues in design and the firm excelled in this style, creating in the process many of the finest decorative objects of the 20th century.

This highly unusual timepiece is, according to our research, one of only two publicly known examples, possibly both made to special order for a connoisseur of Cartier's extraordinary Art Deco creations.
