by the Batenin Porcelain Factory, St. Petersburg, 1812-1832; the milk jug by the Gardner Factory, 1820-1840
Comprising: a coffee-pot, tea-pot, a sugar-bowl with cover, twelve cups with saucers and a slop-bowl, the coffee and tea-pot with cream-jug, a sugar bowl and slop bowl on spreading circular feet, with C-scroll handles and domed covers, the bodies gilded throught with finely painted naturalistic flowers including tulips, roses and blue-bells growing in earth, the cups with stylized foliate scroll handles and gilded interiors, marked under bases, except two saucers, two cups and sugar-bowl, apparently unmarked; and a matching milk-jug with bifurcated handle, marked under base

专家说明

Philip Batenin's private St. Petersburg porcelain factory flourished in the first decades of the 19th century. The factory's products were awarded a large gold medal at the First Industrial Exhibition, held in St. Petersburg in 1929. Batenin porcelain was classical in form and renowed for high quality painting. Items were decorated with flowers, landscapes and views of St. Petersburg and the surrounding areas. Batenin porcelain was also distinguished by its heavy gilding. Howerver the technique used, unfortunately, was not very hard wearing. The factory ceased production in 1938 after it was destroyed in a fire.
