The present composition is based on Frans Hals' portrait of Willem Warmondt (Amsterdam 1583-1649 Haarlem) in the right foreground in Banquet of the officers of the St. Hadrian civic guard company, Frans Halsmuseum, Haarlem (see S. Slive, op. cit., no. 45). Warmondt was owner of the brewery 't Gecroonde Ancker and for some time mayor of Haarlem.
