Another pair sold Parke Bernet, New York, 21 March 1961, lot 324.
It is interesting to note that an examination of gilding samples revealed a layer of silver leaf on these tabourets. The most famous example of silvered furniture in Germany in the first half of the 18th century was at the Castle Nymphenburg in Amalienburg. Examples of this interior are illustrated in B. von Brigitte Langer, Die Möbel der Schlösser Nymphenburg und Schleibheim, Munich, 2000, pp.130-132. The console table in particular on page 131, with two fierce dragons carved in the frieze, although more elaborate than the design on the tabourets suggests a similar inspiration.
