IN THE MANNER OF GILLOWS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY
Of narrow form, the rounded rectangular reeded top with hinged compartment to the rear incoporating pen and nib trays and an ink well, above a mahogany-lined frieze drawer with convex quarter-fillets, on ring-turned reeded tapering legs, with brass caps and castors, the handles later, the drawer front reveenered possibly at the time of construction

专家说明

This chamber table is of unusually narrow form and designed to remain against a wall (the back is not finished), suggesting it may have been made to suit a client's specific requirements. It could possibly have been designed to fit a recess. A sketch for this type of table appears in Gillows' Estimate Sketch Book, dated 1810, called by them a 'chamber writing-table' (No. 344/144, p. 11, Westminster City Archives).
A related chamber writing-table, of similarly narrow form, stamped Gillow, was sold anonymously, Christie's, London, 10 March 2005, lot 214 (£7,200).
