Specialist note
Prized amongst enthusiasts, the Rolex 'Zenith' Daytona reference 16520 is a staple in the watch collecting community. Launched in 1988, the model was produced until 2000 with slight variations over the years. As the moniker suggests, reference 16520 utilizes a special movement and was the first self-winding chronograph wristwatch by the brand. Rolex Caliber 4030, found within reference 16520 is a heavily modified movement based on Zenith’s El Primero Caliber 4030. Over 200 modifications were completed on the El Primero-based caliber to meet the exceptional standards of excellence from Rolex.
The present Daytona is a 'MK 4' model with a 'U' serial number dating it to 1997. The 40mm steel timepiece features brushed and high-polished finishings and is fitted on a matching Oyster bracelet. The dial is glossy white with black accents in the registers. The Oyster case features a screw-down crown and pushers, adding to the wonderful, streamline sporty-elegance of the timepiece.
