Rudolf Khametovich Nureyev (1938-1993), Paris; (†) his sale, Christie's, New York, 13 January 1995, lot 120, as Joseph Galvan.

Specialist note

When this work was exhibited in 1989 with the dealers Thomas Agnew & Sons, an attribution to Joseph (Jose) Galvan was proposed on the basis of an inscription formerly on the reverse (loc. cit.), which has since been obscured by a lining. It sold with the same attribution in 1995, when it came to market from the collection of the great ballet dancer Rudolf Khametovich Nureyev.
