Specialist note

Sister of eminent American modernist Georgia O'Keeffe, Ida Ten Eyck O'Keeffe was a celebrated artist in her own right. Born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, in 1889, Ida O'Keeffe taught drawing at a variety of Virginia high schools and elementary schools throughout the 1910s following her summer studies at the University of Virginia. In 1918 she decided to study nursing, a pursuit that supported her artistic endeavors. Painting around 70 known canvases in her life, Ida O'Keeffe exhibited her work in a variety of venues in the first half of the 20th century.
