Specialist note

The Florentine Domenico Cresti worked as a young man with Federico Zuccari, and with him travelled to Rome and Venice. Passignano’s art was deeply influenced by that of the older master. The present sheet comes from the collection of the 18th Century Roman sculptor and restorer Bartolomeo Cavaceppi. Many other drawings from the same collection are now in the Kupferstsichkabinett, Berlin.
