Beautiful and rare, the present Patek Philippe monopusher chronograph pocket watch features a substantial 18k yellow gold with a well-preserved white enamel dial with pulsations. The first year of production for these pocket watch chronograph movements was roughly 1860, and only 1400 to 1500 movements were ever manufactured. However, only about 250 of them have returned to market, making these chronograph pocket watches extremely rare and sought after. It is worth mentioning as an interesting note that almost the equivalent amount of split-seconds minute repeating movements were made as standard chronograph movements since the grand complication was very popular in the American market. Over the course of 70 years before the enthronement of wristwatches, these watches were offered in various case styles and dial configurations, with the present lot featuring a 4-part case with a cuvette, and a very rare and highly attractive pulsations scale calibrated to 30 units. As the original owner was a physician, this timepiece was a very important and functional tool that helped him record his patient's pulse, making the present lot a beautiful and romantic artifact of history.
