Specialist note
Released in 2005, Patek Philippe reference 4936 was part of the second wave of annual calendar wristwatches since the complication’s inception in 1996. Importantly, it was Patek Philippe’s first complicated wristwatch designed for women, recognizing their interest in high horology.
The present timepiece is crafted from 18k yellow gold and has a refined presence on the wrist. The watch has a balanced, symmetrical dial made from Mother-of-Pearl, in which the brand boasts its mastery in craftsmanship as the fragile material has been cut to allow for separate, Mother-of-Pearl disks in the calendar registers. The dial has further been cut in the moon phases window, increasing the architectural depth of the dial. Uncommonly seen as it is of tedious and fragile workmanship, the watch covets applied gold, luminous roman numerals on top of the Mother-of-Pearl.
Patek Philippe considers every detail of their timepieces, and this can be further seen as the diamond bezel is recessed to protect the settings. The manufacturer has also included diamonds in winding crown for additional flare and opulence.
