Specialist note

The present work includes studies of the artist’s son, Paul, who was also the first owner of the drawing. Also depicted are studies after Pedrode Moyas’ Visión de Santa María Magdalena de Pazzi (Museo Bellas Artes, Granada), José vendido por sus hermanos (Museo del Prado, Madrid) and an engraving after Tintoretto’s portrait of his daughter. All three works were likely known by Cezanne from books published by Charles Blanc.
